Steps Towards Establishing Your High School FLA Club
Come together as FLA delegates in each high school and BRAINSTORM who are potential high school faculty/staff advisors for the FLA club. Subsequently, via INTERACTIVE METHOD, vote on who will be the person you ask to be your club advisor. |
| |
Approach your potential advisor and explain FLA and the significance of establishing an FLA club in your high school. Understand that your advisor should serve as a mentor throughout your club meetings and activities, and will provide the physical setting in which to carry out weekly meetings. |
| |
Establish communication between your potential FLA club advisor and your Affiliate Director and/or Corporate Program Directors. Provide the Directors the following information: potential advisor's name, title, mailing address, email, and phone number. This will allow any questions your advisor may have about the FLA program to be answered. |
| |
Investigate and follow through with ASB (Associated Student Body) requirements and deadlines to establish a new club at your high school. This will help provide support and recognition as a valid organization among your high school peers. Additionally, this will grant you the opportunity to participate in school events, fundraisers, etc. as a high school organization. |
| |
Go to your principal and set up an appointment to discuss your interest in starting a new club. Inform him or her that you would like to have two to three FLA delegate representatives, your potential advisor, and an FLA Director at the meeting in order to provide support to your efforts. It is the responsibility of the students to take initiative and adequately express their interest to create an FLA club at their high school. |
| |
Initiate your club meetings and determine SHORT TERM GOALS and LONG TERM GOALS for your club. Contact your local FLA representative to coordinate with them days when they would be able to assist your weekly meetings. |
