Program Regions
Since the philosophy at the heart of FLA is that youth
are the most potent role models, it is hardly surprising that their
influence has grown out of the school systems in five regions in
California, and has had programs run by FLA Alumni in universities in
Indiana, Utah, California, Washington DC, and New York. All of this was
accomplished for nineteen years as an all-volunteer organization. The
first leadership camp for 8/9th graders began in one school in Oxnard in
1983, and has grown its influence across California in five chapters,
mainly: the San Fransisco East Bay, Santa Barbara County, Ventura County
and Orange County.
Each FLA chapter in California is headed by a
volunteer director who annually contributes over 400 hours of service.
Regional coordinators and college students who have been through the
program, organize, train, and educate the cadres of young leaders in their
region. Once students are motivated through the initial Leadership Camp;
the sky is the limit! Some of the founders of these chapters have been
involved in FLA since the early 1980s and continue to educate the youth in
their communities to be able to think critically and work for the common
good.
